What is digital signage?

Digital signage is dynamic content on screens. In retail, hospitality, offices, or public spaces. Here’s what it is, why it matters, and how to run it without hardware.

Guide · updated regularly

Digital signage means using screens (TVs, displays, kiosks) to show content that can change: menus, promotions, wayfinding, queue info, or live data. Unlike static posters or printed boards, digital signage updates in seconds from a central dashboard.

Modern digital signage often runs in the cloud: you manage content from a browser, and screens receive updates automatically. You don’t need a media player per screen; many solutions (including firmo) run in the browser on smart TVs or other devices.

Benefits include faster updates, consistent messaging across locations, and the ability to show live data (e.g. from your POS or inventory). With AI-assisted tools, you can also create and update content in minutes instead of waiting on designers.
